Role description

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our team at EPAM Systems in Poland.

This position offers a hybrid work model - combining remote work with 3 days per week from one of our EPAM offices located in Kraków, Wrocław, or Gdańsk . This setup allows you to enjoy flexibility while staying connected with your team and benefiting from in-person collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software components under the guidance of senior team members using Java and related technologies
  • Write clean, well-structured, and readable code following team coding standards and best practices
  • Implement and consume RESTful APIs as part of application development tasks
  • Write unit tests to ensure correctness and reliability of delivered code
  • Participate in code reviews - both as a reviewer and a contributor - to learn and uphold quality standards
  • Collaborate with team members including developers, QA engineers, and business analysts in an Agile environment
  • Use version control systems to manage code changes and contribute to shared repositories
  • Investigate and resolve bugs and issues reported during testing or production
  • Actively participate in team ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Continuously learn new technologies, tools, and approaches to grow professionally and contribute more effectively to the team

Requirements

  • A minimum of 9 - 12 months of production experience in software development
  • Solid understanding of Java core fundamentals, including experience with Java 21 features and modern language capabilities
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries and working with relational databases
  • Practical experience with JUnit and a strong understanding of unit testing principles and best practices
  • Basic knowledge of REST concepts, including HTTP methods, status codes, and request/response structure
  • Hands-on experience with Git for version control, branching, and collaborative development workflows
  • Very good coding skills with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code
  • Working knowledge of Spring Boot for building Java-based applications
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) basics and core cloud concepts
  • Understanding of CI/CD fundamentals - awareness of automated build, test, and deployment pipelines
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow within a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in English (B2+), both written and spoken

Nice to have

  • Exposure to Google Cloud technologies such as Guice (dependency injection), gRPC, and Protocol Buffers for building efficient service communication
  • Basic knowledge of Python for scripting, automation, or supplementary development tasks
  • Familiarity with Angular basics, including component structure and fundamental frontend development concepts
  • Experience with Claude/Codex/Gemini
