Senior Java Developer (with Python skills)

We're looking for a Senior Java Developer (with Python skills) to join our team in Spain in a remote working mode. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain highly scalable backend applications using Java and Python/Django, working across the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis to production deployment.

You will contribute to business-critical financial platforms for a leading global financial market infrastructure provider, collaborate closely with architects, product owners, and security specialists, and help ensure adherence to secure coding practices and modern development standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services and RESTful APIs using Spring Boot
• Implement and enhance Python/Django components as part of integrated solutions
• Participate in requirements analysis, solution design, and technical planning
• Ensure robust database interaction leveraging relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), including schema design and query optimization
• Follow clean code practices and object-oriented design principles to deliver maintainable, production-ready code
• Write unit and integration tests using JUnit, Mockito or equivalent frameworks
• Perform peer code reviews, ensure code quality and adherence to standards
• Support CI/CD practices via GitLab pipelines and modern DevOps workflows
• Configure application observability via monitoring and logging tools (Datadog or similar)
• Ensure compliance with secure development best practices, including OWASP guidelines
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to end-to-end delivery, including release support and defect resolution

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with Java backend expertise (Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA/Hibernate)
• Practical knowledge of Python and Django frameworks
• Experience designing scalable backend services and REST API architectures
• Proficiency with SQL and relational databases, including schema management and performance tuning
• Deep knowledge of clean code principles, OOP design patterns and maintainable architecture
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD (Git, GitLab) and collaborative workflows
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging and observability frameworks (e.g., Datadog)
• Knowledge of secure coding standards including authentication and authorization frameworks (OAuth2, JWT, SSO)
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to troubleshoot complex problems
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)
• Knowledge of containerization/orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Exposure to static code analysis and vulnerability scanning tools (SonarQube, BlackDuck, Trivy)
• Experience in system design, technical leadership or mentoring roles
• Awareness of cybersecurity standards, HTTP fundamentals and networking concepts
