Role description

We are seeking an experienced Lead System Engineer to spearhead heterogeneous database migration initiatives from MS SQL Server to Aurora PostgreSQL. In this role, you will drive end-to-end migration efforts leveraging AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), while authoring migration runbooks that guide broader engineering teams through complex enterprise transitions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup, configuration, and validation of AWS DMS and SCT for heterogeneous database migrations
  • Design and implement Aurora PostgreSQL environments using Infrastructure-as-Code principles
  • Author comprehensive migration runbooks for execution by the broader engineering team
  • Deliver end-to-end heterogeneous database migration projects for enterprise customers
  • Perform production-grade database operations including backup/restore, parameter tuning, and failover testing
  • Drive schema conversion efforts from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth migration execution and knowledge transfer
  • Validate data integrity and performance benchmarks throughout the migration lifecycle
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship on AWS database migration best practices

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on system engineering experience
  • At least 1 year of relevant leadership experience
  • Expertise in AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and MGN
  • Deep proficiency in MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL (or Aurora PostgreSQL)
  • Background in production-grade database operations, including backup/restore, parameter tuning, and failover testing
  • Skills in Infrastructure-as-Code for database resources using Terraform and CloudFormation
  • Showcase of authored or contributed migration runbooks for enterprise customers
  • Proven capability to deliver heterogeneous database migration projects end-to-end
  • Proficiency in English at an Upper-Intermediate level (B2) or higher
