Role description
We are in search of a highly skilled Chief Cloud Engineer with deep AWS knowledge to become part of our team.
Serving as an AWS Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer, you will improve visibility into cloud expenses by establishing a data-centric methodology for monitoring, reporting on, and fine-tuning cloud costs. The right fit for this role has real-world experience in DevOps or SRE, extensive know-how in examining and streamlining costs across sizable AWS deployments, a keen interest in data analysis, and strong capabilities in working cooperatively with colleagues company-wide.
Responsibilities
- Team up with development and engineering units to discover ways to optimize spending, increasing ROI on cloud resources while driving down costs
- Build a comprehensive grasp of the client's product, how it's architected and deployed in the cloud, and the expenses linked to every segment of the environment
- Provide direction to architects and engineers on optimizing resources, cutting down waste, planning capacity, and defining KPIs
- Keep watch over cloud spending patterns to detect sudden increases and irregular usage, then investigate the underlying causes
- Oversee usage of cloud reservations and savings plans, working in tandem with teams to shift freed-up resources elsewhere
- Study data trends and outliers to extract insights that inform both high-level strategy and daily operations
- Uncover savings potential connected to cloud commitment choices (Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot Instances, Committed/Sustained Use) and track how they're being used
- Detect areas of waste and design realistic strategies to improve efficiency
- Develop, update, and maintain dashboards, reports, and automated systems for tracking costs, usage, alerts, and projections
- Build dashboards and automated reporting infrastructure to ensure ongoing compliance with cost objectives
- Play a role in developing, improving, automating, and governing policies and best practices around cost optimization
- Share KPI updates and put forward savings recommendations to the relevant stakeholders
- Work in partnership with engineering teams to validate that cost-reduction efforts are producing the desired outcomes
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of hands-on professional experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, including cost reporting and optimization at a large scale
- At least 2 years of experience in a leadership or team oversight role
- Practical experience with AWS EKS and related containerization technologies
- Proficient with cost tracking and cloud management tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Cost and Usage Report, AWS Budgets, CloudHealth, AWS Managed Services, Amazon EC2, and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service
- Working knowledge of GitHub, Jenkins, and Terraform for managing version control, automation, and infrastructure setup
- Track record of developing cost optimization dashboards, models, and reports for engineering teams leveraging cloud services
- Strong attention to detail combined with a real passion for turning data into practical insights
- Comfortable juggling several projects at once, whether working solo or as part of a team
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of engaging technical and non-technical audiences
- Natural curiosity and willingness to explore and implement new and emerging technologies
- Proficient written and spoken English at a B2 level or above
Nice to have
- Knowledge of AWS Lambda for developing serverless applications and automating cost management tasks
- Hands-on experience with Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring cloud resources and tracking performance indicators
- Familiarity with Amazon S3 for managing and assessing storage costs and usage patterns
- Experience with Datadog for monitoring, setting alerts, and visualizing data across cloud infrastructure
- Applied experience with Python for scripting, automating tasks, and developing custom tools that support cost analysis and reporting
