Role description

We are seeking a Software Engineer (Python, Java) to build new features and keep critical platforms running for a multi-year ANZ engineering transformation. You will work across modern and legacy systems, support production issues and help the team adopt AI-assisted delivery practices using tools like GitHub Copilot.

Responsibilities

  • Build new features and enhancements for customer-facing platforms and internal products
  • Support business-critical applications through production support, incident resolution and continuous improvement
  • Develop across a mixed stack with a focus on Python and Java while navigating legacy components
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across services, integrations and environments with a pragmatic, problem-solving approach
  • Collaborate in cross-functional balanced teams using Agile methods such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Communicate technical trade-offs, progress and operational updates clearly to Australia and New Zealand stakeholders
  • Contribute to AI-assisted engineering practices, including AI-supported analysis, coding and testing where appropriate
  • Participate in shift-based support coverage as needed to meet operational requirements

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and supporting applications using Python and Java
  • Ability to work as a polyglot engineer across multiple languages without needing equal depth in each
  • Knowledge of production support practices including incident triage, root-cause analysis and remediation
  • Exposure to PHP and or Node.js in enterprise environments, even if not your primary stack today
  • Comfort learning or refreshing less-recent technologies to support legacy systems when needed
  • Clear communication in spoken English for collaboration with Australia and New Zealand teams
  • Mindset suited to a managed-services environment balancing feature delivery with operational priorities

Nice to have

  • Experience in managed services, long-term support or KTLO-style engagements
  • Exposure to modernization programs balancing stability and incremental improvement
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar
