About the Role

In this role, you will keep a smart meter data platform fast, stable, and ready for the future. On the Transition Smart Energy Platform (SXP) project for a German transmission system operator, you will take over an existing solution and modernize it step by step through 2027, so that large volumes of energy data are processed reliably every day.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-performance Java services that receive and process large volumes of smart meter data
  • Modernize the inherited platform step by step, improving performance, maintainability, and resilience
  • Collaborate closely with DevOps engineers, architects, and client stakeholders to plan changes and release them safely
  • Analyze and resolve third-level incidents and fix bugs to keep production services dependable
  • Build event-driven data flows with Kafka and Kafka Streams
  • Operate and troubleshoot services on Kubernetes, and monitor them with Grafana and Splunk
  • Maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for continuous integration and delivery
  • Contribute to Angular frontend work when the project requires it

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Java development and related technologies
  • 8+ years of experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks (Quarkus, Jakarta EE)
  • 6+ years of experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Practical experience with Kafka and/or Kafka Streams
  • Recent hands-on project experience (within the last 3 years) in the technologies above
  • Analytical approach to incident analysis and problem-solving in production environments
  • Clear, proactive communication within a distributed team
  • Expert knowledge of Java and related technologies
  • Software design patterns, continuous integration, and security practices
  • Experience building solutions for large data volumes with relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience with OpenShift and/or Azure
  • Knowledge of power grids and energy markets
  • Fluent German and English (C1) to work with the client, run technical discussions, and write documentation in both languages
