Role description

We are looking for a senior ColdFusion developer to remediate and enhance an existing application. This is not a greenfield build. The role needs an experienced developer who can work out why issues are occurring, not only patch the symptoms, and who can plan and deliver their own work with minimal supervision. Once core remediation is complete, the focus shifts to delivering enhancements.

Required skills and experience

  • Senior level commercial experience developing and maintaining ColdFusion (CFML)

applications, with specific experience on existing or legacy codebases.

  • Demonstrated root cause analysis and debugging on production grade systems.
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills, including query tuning.
  • Working knowledge of secure coding practices and common web application

vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10).

  • Proven ability to work autonomously, manage own priorities and communicate clearly

with limited direction.

  • Experience with source control and structured release practices.
  • Based onshore in Australia (location and work rights to be confirmed).

What success looks like

  • Issues are resolved at their root cause and do not recur.
  • Remediation is completed efficiently, leaving meaningful time for enhancements.
  • Clear documentation exists of what was changed, why, and what remains.

Language ColdFusion (CFML), SQL, JavaScript

Platform Adobe ColdFusion or Lucee (TBC)

Database TBC

DevOps Source control and build and release tooling (environment TBC; Kiandra default

is Azure DevOps)

Security Aikido and OWASP ZAP (Kiandra defaults, subject to project environment)

  • Experience with both Adobe ColdFusion and Lucee (engine to be confirmed).
  • Experience with front end JavaScript frameworks commonly paired with ColdFusion applications.
  • Experience modernising or migrating ColdFusion applications.
  • Assess the existing codebase, triage and prioritise issues, and agree a remediation plan

with the engagement lead.

  • Investigate problems in the application, determine root causes and implement fixes

and preventative measures, rather than treating symptoms only.

  • Design, code, test, document and refactor complex ColdFusion (CFML) code and

integration services within an existing codebase.

  • Apply agreed standards and security practices to reduce risk in the existing code,

including input handling, authentication and session management.

  • Assess proposed changes to database objects and data structures, and optimise

queries and database interactions where they contribute to defects or poor

performance.
