Role description

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer, DR Platform (AWS) for a full-time position (40 hours per week) on a short-term basis (16 weeks) in LATAM. Our client is an established, third-generation family business with more than 80 years of history in wholesale protein distribution across the Pacific Northwest. Known for rigorous food-safety standards and a customer-first culture.

As the DR Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the AWS-based disaster recovery environment of a 24/7 US food distribution business. This includes networking, identity and access management, virtual desktops, replication and monitoring - all of which must function reliably to enable business operations to run from AWS during a disaster recovery event.

The role focuses on remediating gaps identified during discovery, implementing infrastructure as code where practical, and executing failover and failback procedures alongside the DR Lead Engineer.

  • 6+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure or DevOps, with strong hands-on expertise in AWS networking and identity management.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, VPC, site-to-site VPN, Route 53, IAM, Amazon WorkSpaces, AWS Directory Service, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, EBS and S3 snapshots.
  • Experience managing Amazon WorkSpaces at scale, including image management, user profiles, capacity planning and authentication flows.
  • Experience with VMware and Zerto or similar replication technologies, as well as Rubrik or comparable backup and recovery platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory and DNS.
  • Practical experience with Terraform or CloudFormation, PowerShell and Python.
  • Hands-on experience participating in disaster recovery tests, ideally including a full production failover and subsequent failback.
  • Methodical and detail-oriented, particularly when implementing changes to production environments.
  • Comfortable working as part of a two-person engineering team under strict, time-bound testing windows.
  • Strong written English skills, particularly for technical documentation, operational runbooks and change requests.
  • Proactive in identifying, communicating and escalating risks before they affect production.
  • Experience with SQL Server log shipping.
  • Experience with Rubrik backup and recovery solutions.
  • Familiarity with network discovery tools.
  • AWS Advanced Networking or SysOps certification.
  • Willingness to travel to the US for scheduled DR testing weekends
  • Review Zerto replication coverage and health, remediate replication gaps, and right-size recovery servers.
  • Configure AWS networking, including VPCs, security groups, site-to-site VPN connectivity, Route 53 DNS cutover, firewall rules, public IP addresses, and inbound connectivity for EDI partners and remote users.
  • Assess and implement AWS identity services, including AWS Directory Service for Microsoft Active Directory (AWS Managed Microsoft AD), as appropriate.
  • Prepare Amazon WorkSpaces capacity, golden images and user profiles to support the entire user base during recovery.
  • Automate database recovery procedures and update connection strings, license server configurations and scheduled jobs as required.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for replication health and the overall recovery environment.
  • Define and implement infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation where practical.
  • Plan and execute isolated, load, ransomware-recovery and production failover/failback tests, measuring actual recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
  • Contribute to DR architecture documentation and operational runbooks, and transition monitoring responsibilities to the client's IT team.
