Role description

At Intuit, our mission is powering prosperity around the world. The Tax Processor 4 role is an advanced specialist position within our Tax Processing function, responsible for independently resolving the organization's most complex tax cases, serving as the team's escalation endpoint for non-precedented issues, and building the technical capability of less experienced Tax Processors. This role supports accurate and timely tax compliance for millions of customers across our platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Independently own resolution of the most complex tax notices, multi-jurisdictional issues, and penalty abatements, applying deep regulatory expertise with minimal supervision
  • Serve as the team's escalation point for complex, non-precedented cases; determine root cause and resolution path where no established procedure exists
  • Conduct audits of payroll records for compliance, identifying control gaps and recommending corrective action for the specific cases and accounts involved (case-level - see Discussion Point 6 for the boundary with EX5's systemic scope)
  • Author and maintain SOP documentation and training materials; provide informal coaching and guidance to less experienced Tax Processors (see Discussion Point 5)
  • Serve as subject-matter resource on tax treatment, filing requirements, and compliance interpretation for internal partners
  • Partner with technology and operations teams to validate accuracy of automated tax calculations and system enhancements before rollout
  • Prepare and file the most complex amended returns and manage correspondence for escalated, specialized cases
  • Maintain expert-level currency on regulatory changes, communicating case-level impacts to the team

Qualifications

  • Typically 3+ years of relevant experience in tax processing, payroll tax operations, or tax compliance, with demonstrated depth in a specialization
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated domain expertise; FPC or CPP preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-jurisdictional tax regulations and agency procedures, applied independently to non-precedented cases
  • Demonstrated ability to informally coach and develop team members and create training/documentation content
  • Track record resolving the most complex cases in a queue with minimal escalation or rework
  • Proficiency with tax/payroll systems and reconciliation tooling, including validating system changes
  • Ability to translate complex tax concepts for technical and non-technical audiences
