Foundations
OSINT is intelligence derived from publicly available sources. The intelligence cycle runs direction, collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination — security teams use it for threat intelligence, attack-surface mapping, and authorized investigations.
OSINT — open-source intelligence — is intelligence produced from publicly available information: public websites, registries, social profiles, code repositories, and the like. The discipline is what turns scattered public data into something useful.
The intelligence cycle is the repeatable workflow. Direction defines the question, collection gathers open sources, processing organizes and de-duplicates the haul, analysis turns data into insight, and dissemination reports the findings to whoever asked.
Security teams run this cycle for legitimate, defensive ends: threat intelligence on adversaries, mapping their own organization's external attack surface, and authorized investigations. The cycle keeps the work structured instead of an aimless data dump.

Direction sets the requirement: what question the investigation must answer before any data is gathered.
direction: define-the-questionCollection gathers data from publicly available, open sources — the heart of OSINT.
collection: gather-open-sourcesProcessing organizes raw collected data and removes duplicates so it can be analyzed.
processing: organize-and-dedupeAnalysis turns processed data into insight — the step that creates actual intelligence.
analysis: turn-data-to-insightDissemination delivers the finished findings to the people who requested them.
dissemination: report-findingsRead the concept map and follow the code breakdown.
Type the implementation, repair mistakes and work through every recall exercise.
