Search & Discovery

Deleted content often survives in web archives, caches, paste sites, and public code repositories. GitHub code search can surface accidentally committed secrets, so because an organization's history and mistakes are recoverable, regular self-assessment and secret rotation matter.

Deleting content from a live site rarely deletes it from the internet. Web archives keep historical snapshots, and search caches hold a recent copy of a page that survives after the original changes or disappears.

Paste sites host dumped text publicly, and dorking them can reveal leaked data. GitHub code search scans every public repository, so a secret accidentally committed — even if later removed from the latest commit — can remain discoverable in history.

Because an organization's past and its mistakes are recoverable, defensive routine matters: regularly search your own footprint across these sources, and if a credential ever touched a public place, rotate it rather than assuming deletion was enough.

01

Archives and caches preserve pages after deletion.

02

Paste sites and public repos can hold leaked data.

03

Rotate any secret that touched a public location.

# web.archive.org/web/*/example.com
# google cache + cachedview
# paste-site and pastebin dorks
# github code search for leaked keys

Read the implementation

Connect each part of the code to the concept before you type.

1. Archive history

The web.archive.org wildcard URL lists every archived snapshot of a domain, recovering pages removed from the live site.

# web.archive.org/web/*/example.com

2. Cached copies

Search caches and cachedview keep a recent copy of a page, viewable even after the original changes or goes offline.

# google cache + cachedview

3. Paste sites

Paste sites host dumped text publicly; dorking them can surface leaked data an organization never meant to expose.

# paste-site and pastebin dorks

4. Code leaks

GitHub code search scans public repositories and can surface secrets accidentally committed to them.

# github code search for leaked keys
