Scanning & Enum

Automated scanners (Nessus, OpenVAS, nuclei) flag known vulnerabilities fast, and searchsploit maps a software version to public exploits in Exploit-DB. Because scanners produce false positives, every finding is manually validated before it goes in the report.

After enumeration, scanners speed up the search for known issues. nuclei -u https://target -t cves/ runs a library of CVE templates against an authorized URL and reports matches in minutes.

searchsploit apache 2.4.49 queries a local copy of Exploit-DB, mapping a specific software version to public proof-of-concept exploits. Authenticated Nessus or OpenVAS scans log in to assess patch levels and misconfigurations more deeply than an unauthenticated scan can.

All of these tools trade depth for speed and produce false positives. A version banner can be wrong, a CVE may not apply to this configuration, and a flagged issue may be mitigated. So the rule is constant: always manually validate findings before they go in the report.

01

nuclei runs CVE templates against an authorized URL.

02

searchsploit maps a version to public Exploit-DB entries.

03

Scanners give false positives — manually validate every finding.

nuclei -u https://target -t cves/

# always manually validate findings

Read the implementation

Connect each part of the code to the concept before you type.

1. Template scan

nuclei runs community CVE templates against an authorized URL to flag known issues quickly.

nuclei -u https://target -t cves/

2. Map to exploits

searchsploit looks up a software and version in the local Exploit-DB copy to find public exploits.

3. Scanners

Authenticated Nessus or OpenVAS scans log in to check patch levels and configuration from the inside.

# Nessus / OpenVAS authenticated scans

4. Validate

Scanners produce false positives, so every finding is manually confirmed before it reaches the report.

# always manually validate findings
