Geospatial (GEOINT)

Aircraft broadcast ADS-B and ships broadcast AIS — public position transponders aggregated by FlightRadar24, ADS-B Exchange, and MarineTraffic. Following this public movement data supports verification, journalism, and logistics analysis.

Most aircraft and large ships continuously broadcast their own position. Aircraft use ADS-B and ships use AIS — open transponder signals meant for traffic safety that anyone with a receiver can pick up.

Aggregators collect those broadcasts into searchable maps: FlightRadar24 and ADS-B Exchange for flights, MarineTraffic for vessels. They show a craft's track, speed, and recent route from purely public data.

Following this movement data supports verification, journalism, and logistics analysis — confirming that a relief flight landed, that a tanker reached port, or that a claimed route is consistent with the public transponder record.

Connect each part of the code to the concept before you type.

1. Aircraft tracking

Aircraft broadcast ADS-B position data, aggregated by sites like FlightRadar24 and ADS-B Exchange.

# ADS-B: flightradar24, adsbexchange

2. Ship tracking

Ships broadcast AIS position data, aggregated by MarineTraffic into live ship positions.

# AIS: marinetraffic ship positions

3. Public broadcasts

ADS-B and AIS are public transponder broadcasts that anyone can receive and aggregate.
